Continuing Education Programs

All workshops are held at 225 S. Meramec in Clayton on the second Saturday of the month from 3-5 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Workshops are held September through May.

Workshops are FREE for MSCSW members. Non-members may attend individual workshops for $25 each, or purchase a $130 Education Pass that entitles you to attend all continuing education programs for one year for one low price.

Join us for "Sample St. Louis," an opportunity to check out St. Louis-area restaurants and socialize with your clinical colleagues. Immediately following each Saturday afternoon continuing education program.

Gottman Couples Therapy "In the past 30 years, John Gottman has virtually created a science of marriage. He’s consistently identified everyday variables of astonishing predictive power for determining which couples will divorce and which will stay married.” (Richard Simon in Psychotherapy Networker, September/October 2006)  Joy Allen will explain using the Sound Relationship House with couples, how implementing “small change often” can incrementally change a marriage and the The Gottman Institute certification process.

Child Sexual Abuse Case Presentation This case illustrates the behavior and therapeutic process of a young female child who identifies with the aggressor.  As her healing continues she begins to move into her sadness and grief.

The Effect on The Therapist: Recovering from Mental Health Disaster Relief
Clinicians are often on the front lines helping people deal with disasters. But how do social workers deal with their own emotions following these intensive situations? Edelman will share her experience working with victims of Hurricane Katrina, and McNaughton will talk about counseling families following the crash of TWA Flight 800.
